Colorful Rainbow Light Tunnel, Mini Lanterns & Peaceful Lantern Parade to Celebrate Lantern Festival

To celebrate the Lantern Festival, Chiayi City will distribute 1,000 “Golden Rooster Brings Good Fortune” dream chickens and phoenix-wing mini lanterns to the public from 4:30 p.m. daily on February 8, 9, and 10 at the Cultural Park near the intersection of Minzu Road and Wenhua Road. Limited quantities are available and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chiayi City also hosts the “Welcoming the God of Fortune & Celebrating Lantern Festival with a Peaceful Parade” event, continuing the traditional “bombarding the Earth God’s palanquin” ritual. Decorated floats and performance troupes parade through the city, conducting a night patrol of Zhuolu, passing by multiple temples and streets including Jiuhuashan Dizang Temple, Zhongyi 19th Palace, Xie’an Temple, Nanyue Hall, Jade Emperor Temple, and City God Temple. The event prays for blessings, prosperity, and family safety.

The ParadeThe event is scheduled to kick off at 3:10 p.m. on February 11 at Dong’an Temple on Gongming Road in Chiayi City. The parade will proceed along Gongming Road, Wufeng North Road, Zhongshan Road, Heping Road, Minquan Road, Weixin Road, Minle Street, Anhe Street, Wenchang Street, Minzu Road, Guanghua Road, Yanping Street, Guangcai Street, Zhongzheng Road, Lanjing Street, Zhongxiao Road, Gonghe Road, Ronghe Street, Chaoyang Street, then continue along Minzu Road onto Ren’ai Road, Linsen West Road, Zhongshan Road, Xinrong Road, and Minsheng North Road, before exiting via Zhongshan Road. The parade is expected to return and conclude at Dong’an Temple around 10:00 p.m.
