A Fairytale New Spot: Taiwan’s First Arts & Culture Farm by Jimmy Liao

Young people returning to their hometowns to start businesses and work hard—Tugou Village in Houpi, Tainan, can be considered a prime example. After five months of renovation, the Elegant Farmer Arts & Culture Farm reopened in 2017, founded by a group of passionate youths. Leveraging their expertise in art and aesthetics, they transformed the rural area into a creative space for expressing ideas. By incorporating vegetables and fruits grown by local farmers, visitors of all ages can learn about the origins of their food. The Elegant Farmer Arts & Culture Farm is the first art platform in Taiwan to use a community as an exhibition venue, becoming a renowned highlight of community-building and a new tourist attraction in Tainan. Covering an area of about 2,000 pyeong, visitors to this arts and culture farm can experience a day in the life of a farmer while also gaining insight into the unique perspectives of artists.
