New Joint Ticket Option for Unobstructed Rail-Road Travel to Alishan

The Alishan Forest Railway, established in the first year of the Republic of China, underwent years of restoration after Typhoon Morakot. It was originally scheduled to reopen fully in December 2015, but was severely damaged again by Typhoon Dujuan, causing another disruption. Currently, the main line of Alishan only operates up to Fenchihu Station. Visitors wishing to go to the Alishan Forest Recreation Area need to transfer to a bus on their own.

After taking the small train to Fenchihu Station, passengers can transfer to a bus with seat reservation to reach the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Starting March 1, 2017, a joint rail-road ticket between Chiayi and Alishan has been jointly launched. The Chiayi County Public Bus Management Office provides two buses via Fenchihu bound for Alishan, each reserving 10 seats. Passengers can book a train ticket from Chiayi to Fenchihu through the Alishan Forest Railway online booking system, then reserve a bus seat from Fenchihu to Alishan by phone, and travel to their destination via an integrated rail-road transport method.
