As the 228 Long Weekend begins, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ National Freeway Bureau states that there will be heavier southbound traffic on national highways, with four sections expected to be the most congested. These congested sections and timeframes are: Freeway No. 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM between Hukou and the Hsinchu System, as well as between the Changhua System and the Puyan System; Freeway No. 3 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM between the Yingge System and Guanxi; Freeway No. 5 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM between the Nangang System and Pinglin.

Freeway traffic management measures include high-occupancy vehicle restrictions on Freeway No. 5 from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, applying to the southbound entrance ramps at Nangang System, Shiding, and Pinglin; before 6:00 PM, the southbound entrance of the Pingzhen System on Freeway No. 1 will be closed. As continued rainfall is expected in areas north of central Taiwan, congestion is likely to worsen. Travelers are reminded to pay extra attention to following distance during the holiday and to stay updated on road conditions.
