A magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred at 13:59 noon on January 17. The epicenter was located 12.3 kilometers northwest of Taipei City Hall, approximately in Beitou District, Taipei City.

The quake had a depth of 140 kilometers and lasted about 10 to 12 seconds. It was a felt earthquake. No damage has been reported so far, and the Central Weather Bureau will announce whether there will be any aftershocks.
