This is a small geyser and not naturally formed — it was created in 1964 when a geothermal test well erupted accidentally. Since then, hot spring water has been continuously spurting out, and the calcium carbonate in the water has accumulated over the years around it, forming the mound. Thermophilic algae living on the mound give it vibrant red and green hues.

Even residents of the state are not very familiar with the Fly Geyser, yet it is a beloved landmark among many photographers. This fantastical scenery attracts photography enthusiasts who want to capture this rare landform on Earth.
