The best IG shots of majestic century-old iron bridge in a stunning ruin-style setting

Taiwan’s century-old architecture is incredibly diverse and rich. Through these historic sites, one can witness the traces of time. With the trend of taking photos for social media sweeping the nation, heritage sites and ruin-style aesthetics have also become hugely popular. The Huwei Iron Bridge in Yunlin has a history of over a hundred years. It was funded by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation (originally the 大日本制糖会社) and the entire steel structure was designed by the British. Initially built for transporting sugarcane, it also served as a passage for residents traveling between the two sides of the Huwei River. In recent years, it has become a highly distinctive tourist attraction.

The Huwei Railway Bridge is made up of three sections of steel trusses of varying heights, standing staggered, along with ten large hollow arch-shaped piers. Its magnificent and imposing appearance not only symbolizes the steel age of early Taiwan, a time of struggle and perseverance through adversity, but has now also become an eternal historic landmark for generations.

The Huwei Iron Bridge is one of the few rail bridges in Taiwan that still operates small sugar factory trains. It connects residents on both sides of the Xinhuwei River and is an important transportation bridge for the Huwei area. Although it is not as famous as the Xiluo Bridge, it was built earlier and, after reconstruction, has become a key leisure attraction.
