As spring arrives and flowers bloom, not only is Taiwan swept up in a cherry blossom frenzy, but Japan is also gearing up for its magnificent sakura season. On March 16, the Japan Meteorological Corporation once again updated its 2017 cherry blossom blooming forecast. The earliest blooming date is March 21 in Tokyo, kicking off the sakura season. Due to higher-than-usual temperatures in the Kanto region, blossoms are blooming earlier than in previous years. Other regions will gradually follow suit, with blooms appearing later the further north you go — mostly between April and May. For travelers planning to visit Japan for cherry blossom viewing, here are some famous sakura hotspots for reference.
