Tadao Ando's New Architectural Attraction: Shanghai Retrospective Exhibition at Light Space

The internationally renowned architect Tadao Ando’s latest architectural creation in China, the “Mingyuan Art Museum,” is located on the 8th floor of Shanghai's Aegean Sea Shopping Park, forming a “Light Space” together with the Xinhua Bookstore on the 7th floor. Combining the classic design concept of light-based architecture with the structure of an art museum, the Mingyuan Art Museum, after two years of creation and construction, has become a brand-new cultural landmark in Shanghai.

Tadao Ando’s new design covers an area of approximately 4,000 square meters, including the Xinhua Bookstore on the 7th floor and the Mingyuan Art Museum on the 8th floor. The two spaces are connected by an event area with a starry dome.

In addition to this new masterpiece, the Mingyuan Art Museum, Tadao Ando is also showcasing his own retrospective exhibition “Tadao Ando Exhibition · Leading” here. This marks the first time he has held a personal exhibition within an art museum that he designed himself. The exhibition is divided into five sections: The Journey of Light, The Light of Thought, The Light of Art, The Light of Creation, and The Light of Reading. Through architectural models, documentary footage, design manuscripts, and more, the exhibition not only displays Tadao Ando’s classic masterpieces but also explores his influence beyond architecture.
