As of April 5, its box office takings in Hong Kong have exceeded NT$20 million, even surpassing the Hollywood blockbuster "Beauty and the Beast." This surge has significantly boosted the film’s momentum, especially as the Hong Kong Film Awards are set to be announced on April 8. Leading actors including Gordon Lam, Eric Tsang, and Elaine Jin have become hot topics among fans as potential award winners, while director Wong Chun is also highly favored to take home the Best Director award—it seems almost a sure thing.

Where is the residence of Ah Dong’s father, Big Sea (played by Eric Tsang), andAh Dong (played by Gordon Lam)?Which district of Hong Kong is it in?Actually, their residence (interior scenes) isn’t an official “public housing” apartment. It can be considered more like a self-renovated flat. The interior of their home was actually filmed in an elderly care center in Ngau Tau Kok. The living room and kitchen scenes were shot in a flat in Sham Shui Po. The bedroom scenes were filmed in a flat in Kwun Tong. It’s not a single specific location, but rather several places we felt had a certain symbolic meaning. We combined them to create one that doesn’t actually exist. In reality, these types of flats are also quite common.

【Movie Synopsis】

"Mad World," released in Taiwan on April 7, tells the story of Ah Dong (played by Nicholas Tse), who single-handedly cares for his mother (played by Elaine Jin), a woman suffering from mental illness. The emotional conflict between mother and son resembles a battle of trapped beasts. When Ah Dong accidentally causes his mother’s death, his father Dahai (played by Eric Tsang), who had been living alone for many years, brings Ah Dong back to live with him out of guilt. The two men, burdened with heavy remorse, are left with only each other—but the loved ones confined in their tiny living space are the very past they can’t face...
