Taiwan’s version of Arashiyama: The “Wu Gaya Bamboo Tunnel” in Tai’an feels like stepping into a wuxia novel

When it comes to bamboo grove pathways, many people’s first thought is the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto. In fact, Taiwan has quite a few such scenic spots too. A bamboo tunnel located in Miaoli has recently gone viral online. With towering bamboo stretching as far as 100 meters, it forms a natural green-shaded tunnel, earning it the nickname “Taiwan’s Arashiyama.”

This mysterious bamboo tunnel is located in the mountainous area of Tai’an Township, Miaoli, beneath the Wu Gaya Campground. Much like the bamboo path in Kyoto’s Arashiyama, the lush, sky-high bamboo creates a scene reminiscent of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” or a setting from a wuxia novel. Its serene ambiance is truly enchanting. On sunny days, sunlight filters through the gaps in the bamboo, offering both visual and spiritual delight, setting a poetic rhythm in travelers’ hearts.

A special reminder: there are limited parking spaces near the bamboo grove. Please avoid blocking main roads, and for the sake of public decency, do not litter or make loud noises, so as to preserve the tranquility of the forest. The road leading to the bamboo grove is a mountain trail—narrow and winding—so drive carefully when passing other vehicles.
