Chiayi’s “Neem Tree Green Tunnel” – Immerse Yourself in Spring Fragrance Surrounded by Greenery

In addition to cherry blossoms, wisteria, and golden shower trees, over a hundred “neem trees” have been planted along the southern embankment of the Puzi River in Liujiao Township, Chiayi County, and are now blooming one after another. Spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers, this is considered Taiwan’s longest “neem tree green tunnel.”

The straight stretch of green shade seems endless, while the curved branches reach skyward, weaving together to form a natural tunnel. It offers highly dramatic photo opportunities — whether you crouch down or climb up onto the embankment, you can capture the unique beauty of this place from various angles.

The “neem tree” is a tall deciduous tree that blooms light purple and white tiny flowers every March and April. Its delicate floral fragrance wafts through the air, adding an intoxicating spring vibe. By April, when the flowers are in full bloom, the lush green tunnel gradually takes on a light purple hue, creating a truly dreamy scene. From September to December, it bears yellowish-brown fruits.

Across the bridge on Provincial Highway 37, the other side of the neem tree green tunnel — the flood prevention road — is densely planted with golden shower trees. Visitors might want to check that out as well.
