Must-visit Blooming Flower Fields: 2017 Baihe Lotus Season

In early summer, around May and June, many flower fields come into full bloom, including lupines, hydrangeas, and daylilies—various colorful blossoms will appear one after another across Taiwan. Among the many blooming flowers, the lotus stands out with its elegant beauty emerging unstained from the mud, a graceful and refined presence that makes it one of the favorite subjects for photographers. Located in Baihe District, Tainan, there are expansive lotus ponds. The annual Lotus Season is a must-visit attraction for flower enthusiasts. This year’s Lotus Season runs from May 6 to July 30, with the “Tainan is Green – Come for the Lotus” 2017 Happy Baihe Lotus Season event being held on May 21 at the Lianyuan Fragrant Water Lily Garden.

This year, the lotus fields cover approximately 300 hectares, with twenty out of the twenty-four villages in Baihe District cultivating lotus. Visitors can enjoy lotus blooms all over the area. The main lotus-growing areas are still concentrated in the northern five villages. Cycling is a popular way to explore the lotus fields, with cyclists able to venture deep into areas such as Yufeng, Dazhu, Liantan, and Guang’an. Cycling through the lotus fields is the most popular activity during the season. Aside from taking photos and enjoying lotus-themed meals, visitors can also ride bikes, feel the breeze, and take part in a variety of lotus appreciation activities.
