In an effort to further capture the “black gold” market, Taiwan’s trendy coffee chain brand Louisa Coffee, which now has 330 physical stores across the country, officially rolled out a series of super discounts for its virtual “Black Card” members starting today (the 15th). In addition to receiving a scratch card coupon for every NT$100 spent—offering either a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” deal or a “NT$1 Latte”—purchasers of single-origin coffee beans and selected hand-brewed options (such as Perfectly Sun-Dried Yirgacheffe / Mandheling Kayu Mas G1) can enjoy a 25% discount. Most of the items favored by consumers are included in the promotion, making it a “Strike Ruthlessly” campaign.
This strong promotional push by Louisa Coffee, aiming to boost market share through “ultra-attractive offers,” clearly shows an intent to challenge Starbucks, which frequently offers “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” deals, sparking a battle in the chain coffee market.
To cultivate loyal customers, Louisa Coffee has embraced the AI trend by leveraging the latest AI-powered “EILIS” social interaction feature to innovatively launch the industry’s first virtual “Black Card.” On December 21 of last year, when it was introduced on the official website and Facebook page, it went viral among fans, reaching over 3 million people and attracting 100,000 applicants. To date, the membership has reached 250,000, making it the hotly discussed “black force” among coffee enthusiasts.
Unlike various membership cards, co-branded cards, or family cards on the market, Louisa’s “Black Card” is the first to break free from the physical card format, eliminating the hassle of “card clutter.” Consumers can apply and receive their card simply by scanning a QR code via Facebook or at a branch, without needing a physical card. Members only need to show the Black Card and card number on their mobile messenger interface to enjoy discounts, removing the burden of carrying multiple cards.
Louisa is Taiwan’s largest local coffee chain brand with an in-house roasting facility and is known as a “Local King.” General Manager Huang Ming-hsien personally roasted beans for 14 years to perfect the flavor, and now the chain has over 330 stores. Huang stated that the issuance of the Black Card aims to accumulate regular customers and reward long-time supporters with tangible benefits. He revealed that after accumulating a sufficient membership base, Louisa Coffee has launched a series of aggressive ultra-discount promotions starting now, and hinted that an even more surprising second wave of value deals will begin on April 1.
