Taiwan’s East Coast stretches long and narrow, facing the Pacific Ocean. The Yilan-Hualien-Taitung region boasts breathtaking scenery everywhere, offering relaxation for the mind, body, and soul. Yet beyond the ocean views, there are many other worthwhile spots to explore in this area. Below are ten featured attractions selected—from cultural heritage sites to natural wonders—that future travelers to eastern Taiwan can consider as references, and perhaps plan an inland journey.

Yilan
Sanqi Biruanga Boulevard
Located in Sanqi Village, this Yilan version of Biruanga Boulevard is approximately 2 kilometers long and 5 meters wide, stretching between Fengzun Temple and Xiesong Road. Along the way, there are nine S-shaped curves and not a single utility pole. From May to June during the rice harvest season, it resembles a giant dragon lying amid golden fields of rice.

Dongshan River Water Park
The Water Park is themed around getting close to water and embracing greenery. It fully utilizes the characteristics of the Dongshan River waterway, developing it into an open space that integrates water and greenery. It also makes extensive use of traditional Yilan building materials, presenting a uniquely rustic yet refined style.

Jianqing Nostalgic Trail
The Jianqing Nostalgic Trail in Taipingshan was once selected as one of the 28 most beautiful trails in the world. This trail was developed using part of the former Taipingshan Jianqing logging railway line. It begins as a gravel path paved with long stretches of rail track, and the area retains sections of the historic logging railway. Here, visitors can simultaneously gaze at the sea of clouds below and watch the shifting weather over the Lanyang Plain, from rainy to sunny.

Hualien
Grandma’s Photo Studio
Located inside the Hualien Sugar Factory, Grandma’s Photo Studio was previously the office area for the Guangfu Raw Material Zone, labor union, and political integrity unit during the Japanese colonial period. Now, it’s a place selling nostalgia and small daily goods. Originally built as a set for the TV drama “The Game We Played,” this quaint house displays many creative cultural products.
