The "Golden Joy of Rice" event in Tainan’s rural areas lets you experience rice culture while having fun

The Tainan City No-Rice-Leisure Rice Promotion Association held the "2017 No-Rice-Leisure Golden Joy of Rice" creative rice cuisine competition and harvesting experience event on June 24. Themed around healthy, nutritious, and delicious creative rice dishes, the event also allowed participants to learn from one another, improve their culinary skills, and spread delicious flavors. Through the harvesting experience activity, participants explored the lifecycle of rice—from breeding, seedlings, rice grains, husks, broken rice, brown rice, rice bran, broken grains, to white rice—learning about the entire journey of rice via various by-products.
The competition was divided into a social group and a campus group, with ten pairs per group (each pair consisting of two people). On the day of the event, June 24, besides the exciting competition, there were also various performances including dance, electric-powered San Taizi (a cultural performance), heaven-worshiping prayers, rice harvesting experiences, tasting and scoring, as well as musical performances.

The event site combines with the Houpi Rice Mill to showcase high-quality rice and rice-based food products, while also promoting rice snacks such as rice bowls, rice cakes, rice dumplings, and more. It offers visitors who are interested in rice culture and food a chance to enjoy a rich experience at the event.
Houpi in Tainan is a prime rice-producing area and an important rice granary in Taiwan. With fewer people eating rice and declining rice consumption, the Good Rice Promotion event aims to encourage more people to enjoy high-quality rice.
