Tsukiji Market's relocation confirmed to create new food hub

The world’s largest and over 80-year-old Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, Japan’s biggest fish market, was originally scheduled to move to the new Toyosu Market in November 2016 due to its aging facilities. However, the move was delayed by nearly a year due to environmental assessment and other issues. Recently, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike also announced that the relocation of Tsukiji Market to the Toyosu area in Koto Ward will take place as early as May 2018, serving as the new central wholesale market, while the current site of Tsukiji Market willbe transformed into a new food-themed destination.
