The 2017 Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival will be held at the Dongshan River Water Park from July 1 to August 13 Up!This year’s theme is “Time-Traveling Adventure.” The main visual design uses a jigsaw puzzle to symbolize the festival’s four core themes, and personifies the puzzle pieces as adventurers, inviting everyone to come and bravely explore the festival.

The Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival has been running since 1996 and is about to enter its 22nd year, accompanying 9.06 million people in celebrating joyful summer vacations. It has invited 321 international performance groups from 91 countries to join in the festivities, making it Yilan County’s most iconic flagship event and a highly anticipated large-scale cultural festival in Taiwan.
This year’s overall festival content continues to connect the four core themes of the Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival—"Exhibitions," "Performances," "Games," and "Exchanges."
Five major highlights have been planned—
(1)From Sunshine to Starlight: The park hours have been extended from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM, a full 12 hours, welcoming visitors to fully enjoy the festival. Starting at 4:00 PM from Monday to Friday, Starlight Tickets are available for just NT$150. Not only can you experience the festival in the evening, but you can also stroll leisurely along the Dongshan River under the cool summer breeze at night.
(2)The World at Your Fingertips: This year’s invited groups span all five continents, with a total of 27 teams from 20 countries expected, including Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador, which are participating in the festival for the first time. Enjoy music and dance performances that showcase the cultural flavors of different ethnicities.
(3)Experience a Time-Traveling Adventure: With up to 75% of the exhibits featuring hands-on activities, children can transform practical experiences into inspiration for intelligence and senses. Invite both kids and adults to become time-traveling explorers, traveling through toys from different eras and embarking on a magical adventure.
(4)Creative New Water Facilities: Water play areas introduce new elements for fun in the water, inviting everyone to brave the water world and enjoy the coolest and most refreshing Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival.
(5)The Whole County Becomes the Festival: Connecting the characteristics and highlights of various towns and villages in Yilan County, visitors are invited to deeply experience the charm of the local area. A trip to Yilan will reveal that the entire region is immersed in the joyful atmosphere of the festival.
To facilitate travel for visitors from other counties, the Yilan County Government has also prepared transportation support measures during the festival. During the event, the public is encouraged to use railways and buses as public transport options. Four major intercity bus companies have specially partnered with the festival, offering 5–10 special Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival shuttle buses daily from major transit stations in Taipei and New Taipei City to the festival site. Passengers on these shuttle buses can also purchase discounted tickets. Those taking the train can get off at Luodong Station and transfer to a local bus to the Dongshan River Water Park.

Pre-sale tickets for the Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival are now on hot sale!Holiday individual tickets are priced at NT$300 and regular day tickets at NT$200, both NT$50 cheaper than the on-site price. From now until June 30, the public can purchase electronic tickets at the four major convenience store chains: 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart. During the event, holders of the National Travel Card, E.SUN Bank Card, EasyCard, iPASS, and HappyCash can also enjoy discounted ticket privileges.
