Following the tragic helicopter crash on June 10 that took the life of "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above" director Qi Binglan, the "Seeing Qi Binglan" exhibition offers a space for those wanting to pay tribute, reflect, and gain a renewed understanding of Taiwan’s landscapes. Qi Binglan was a renowned aerial photographer from Taiwan, and his documentary "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above" moved millions. Tragically, he died in a helicopter accident while preparing for the sequel. Qi symbolized the eyes of Taiwan, revealing its beauty and sorrow from unique perspectives. To honor his dedication to Taiwan, Abok Film specially curated the "Seeing Qi Binglan" exhibition for the public to mourn and better understand both the director and the Taiwan he cherished.

The "Seeing Qi Binglan" exhibition is presented in the first person. First, the "Dream Takes Flight" area showcases a selection of his works, displaying the aesthetics of his aerial photography and guiding us to admire Taiwan’s landscapes from above.

Qi Binglan worked in aerial photography for 25 years, flew over 2,500 hours, and captured 300,000 images. In the "Cloud Work" section, it highlights how working at altitude is extremely risky and not something one can achieve alone. His assistant Guan Qi, who perished in the crash, left behind a final image of Hualien’s landscape for us to remember. Aerial photography is full of danger, but through technology, Qi Binglan’s presence is recreated, allowing us to view Taiwan from different angles.

Taiwan looks different from varying heights—there is beauty and also sorrow. The third area, "Seeing Taiwan," screens the trailer for the second installment he was preparing, a vision unfulfilled. His unrealized dreams require us to carry them forward. His anxiety is hidden within the darkroom of "Invisible Taiwan." Taiwan’s land is beautiful yet scarred. Protecting and cherishing Taiwan has always been his greatest motivation. We hope his legacy will continue to inspire Taiwan.

"Now, to capture beautiful scenes, you have to fly higher and farther......."

There is only one Qi Binglan. Though he is gone, "beginnings never end." In this area, family and friends who didn’t get to say goodbye mourn him in various ways. By uniting collective strength, we spread positive energy about Taiwan. Here, we see the rich Taiwanese culture that he cherished. Taiwan is the most beautiful scenery on Earth.

"Many people say Taiwan is small, but have we truly looked at it carefully?"

The exhibition features an AR photo zone where visitors can take commemorative photos with Director Qi Binglan and his assistant.
