Taiwan’s only underwater mailbox—a new diving hotspot—makes waves

Taiwan’s only artistic fish reef underwater mailbox is located at the Suogang snorkeling secret spot. From design planning to completion, it took over half a year. The initial concept was inspired by the idea of an underwater fish reef, aiming to provide habitat for marine life, restore ocean ecosystems, and create a tourism highlight. Penghu is home to one of the world’s most beautiful bays, boasting golden, enchanting beaches. Divers from across Taiwan are welcome to embrace the spirit of marine conservation while enjoying Penghu’s beauty. The unveiling of this underwater mailbox holds significant meaning and will be a major highlight of Penghu travel this summer. The Tourism Bureau has carefully planned a series of underwater art activities and will seek central government support to establish a historic shipwreck museum and underwater museum, creating new tourism highlights for Penghu.

Located in Suogang, southern Penghu, this underwater mailbox not only functions as a place to send and receive mail underwater but also serves as an artificial reef for restoring giant clams and coral reefs, as well as an underwater installation art piece. The County Government Tourism Bureau hopes to integrate it with diving tourism, promote Penghu’s spectacular underwater experiences, and connect attractions along the southern Penghu tourism route, adding exciting new highlights for visitors this summer. The Tourism Bureau is also collaborating with various diving operators, where diving instructors take turns acting as postal carriers to deliver messages and spread good wishes, while regularly maintaining the mailbox facilities.
