Limited-time Water Mist Fantasy Architecture Installation Art Becomes a Hot Photo Spot

To stimulate citizens' awareness and attention to the environment, and to explore the relationship between architecture and artistic aesthetics, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum holds an annual X-Site open call project, selecting a temporary architectural installation that serves as an experiential space where architecture art meets the environment. This year’s first-prize winner “Mist Encounter,” chosen from 37 entries, uses construction scaffolding and semi-transparent soft materials as its main structure, responding to this year’s theme through a water mist installation. With its ethereal fairy-tale atmosphere, the installation has attracted numerous visitors and social media users to take photos and post on platforms like Instagram, sparking a trend of “fairy photos.”

A construction site office is a temporarily built structure, usually used by workers for meals and rest, and is constructed with simple materials and limited aesthetic value. However, “Mist Encounter” seeks to reshape people’s perception of such utilitarian spaces, emphasizing engineering aesthetics and the economics of art—transforming the most basic construction materials into artwork-like installations.

“Mist Encounter” creates an interactive spatial connection with the museum. Surrounded by mist, its humidity and temperature regulation functions produce a dreamlike microclimate art experience in the outdoor plaza during summer. It not only responds to this year’s theme but also echoes the museum’s upcoming air conditioning renovation project launching in September.
