165th Anniversary Exhibition of Gaudí, the Architect of God

The architectural genius who was born in the industrial village of Reus in Spain-Antoni Gaudí, whose remarkable works are now on display in Taiwan!To pay tribute to Gaudí’s works, the Taiwan venue has invited local art teams to create using a variety of real and virtual media such as light, new media interaction, time-lapse video works, and large structural installations. The Architecture Breeding Ground team, which has represented Taiwan at the Venice Biennale, recreates the experimental nature of Gaudí’s architectural creations by using wood structures supplemented with steel to build on-site a sacred space embodying the “form” of Gaudí’s architecture.

This exhibition is divided into four major zones, constructing Gaudí through the evolution of his architectural style and deconstructing him through science-based experiences. It includes seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Casa Milà (Palacio Güell), the Casa Batlló (Casa Mila), the Casa Batlló with its dragon-back roof (Casa Batllo), the Church of Colònia Güell resembling a giant tree hollow (La Cripta de la Colonia Güell)… and related works.

Gaudí: “Straight lines belong to humans, curves belong to God.” To understand Gaudí’s architecture, you must see the models！Under the personal guidance of the Sagrada Família’s director Jordi Faulí and selected in collaboration with Spanish curator Ms. Xu Finland,"Faulí63architectural models have been chosen, including5oversized models over one floor high, such as the iconic catenary arch model, the Sagrada Família roof structure model, and column models over12meters tall resembling tree trunks, recreating the process of creating miracles.

Architecture, art, and science are the three indispensable elements in Gaudí’s architectural creations. He employed mechanical structures and scientific geometry to experiment with non-linear architectural vocabulary, creating curved constructions from different angles in an era without reinforced concrete.
