Whether traveling to Tokyo or Osaka, both Tokyo Disneyland and Osaka Universal Studios are must-visit attractions for most tourists, with Disneyland having long been the king of theme parks in Japan. However, according to recent surveys from Japanese travel websites, the top theme park in the eyes of Japanese consumers is no longer Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea, but rather Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Some Japanese TV stations have even taken an in-depth look at Universal Studios to uncover the secrets behind its rise above Tokyo Disneyland.

Surveys from Japanese travel websites show that Osaka Universal Studios has surpassed Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea to become Japan’s most popular theme park. In recent years, USJ has adopted an “over-the-top” strategy, delivering not only stunning performances but also heart-pounding rides like roller coasters that continue to capture the hearts of consumers.

Since 2011, Universal Studios Japan’s attendance has risen year by year, reaching a record high of 14.6 million visitors in 2016. Although Tokyo Disneyland remains Japan’s most visited theme park, Universal Studios is rapidly catching up.
