Every summer, the area around Tokyo’s Nihonbashi is filled with an elegant seasonal ambiance. From July 7 to September 24 this year, a variety of themed events will be held, turning the streets of Nihonbashi into a beautiful goldfish street. This year’s theme is ECO EDO Nihonbashi “2017~ Enjoying the Cool of Edo with All Five Senses,” combining the traditional summer cooling culture of the Edo period with modern art and design, filling the area around Nihonbashi with a uniquely refined Japanese summer atmosphere.

The Art Aquarium series, which has been held since 2007, combines art design with the aquatic world, giving people the dreamy illusion of beautiful fish swimming in the sky. With the addition of “wa” (traditional Japanese) elements, it has expanded to cities such as Kyoto, Kobe, and Nagoya, continuously evolving and experimenting. It has even made its way to Milan, Italy, allowing people to deeply experience how the fusion of “tradition” and “modernity” can be so exquisitely beautiful.

This summer at “ECO EDO Nihonbashi,” you can not only enjoy the aquarium art exhibition “Art Aquarium 2017 ~Edo~ & Night Aquarium,” which combines dazzling lighting design with 8,000 ornamental fish, but also savor goldfish-shaped desserts and special menus, and participate in the Goldfish Summer Festival. As you stroll along Nihonbashi’s classic lantern-lit streets, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into the brilliant charm unique to the Edo period.
