A new hidden gem of lush green grasslands with panoramic city night views – Gaomei Wetlands

The Qingshui area along Taichung’s coastline boasts captivating seascapes and sunset viewing platforms, among which Gaomei Wetlands is especially popular with international tourists. Beyond Gaomei Wetlands, the rolling hills at the border between Qingshui and Shalu districts also conceal unexpectedly stunning scenery. Near Cihui Pavilion, situated between Lufeng in Shalu District and the Sixth Public Cemetery, lies an expanse of strikingly emerald green grassland, unique red-earth landscapes featured in the TV drama "Hua Jia Nan Hai," and mesmerizing night views after dark.

As this area sees heavy foot traffic during the Qingming Festival for tomb-sweeping, fires often occur, preventing dense tree growth. However, after heavy rains, vast swaths of lush green grass emerge, offering a healing, secret-garden-like atmosphere.

At night, the spot transforms into a favorite for photography enthusiasts. In front of Cihui Pavilion, not only can you enjoy beautiful sunset views, but on clear days, you can also gaze at the wind turbines of Gaomei Wetlands in the distance. After dark, the sparkling urban night lights and the serpentine trails of car headlights come alive for the lens.
