Miniature Gassho Village Railway Landmark Japan's Only Thatched-Station

Japan's traditional architectural features, along with its quaint railway and station, are must-visit spots for many travelers. Located in Shimogō Town, Fukushima Prefecture, the "Yunokami Onsen Station" is a key stop between destinations and also serves as a gateway to Ōuchi-juku. It is one of the Tohoku Hyakusen Stations and the only station in all of Japan built entirely with a thatched roof, making it a unique attraction that train enthusiasts absolutely shouldn't miss.

Although Yunokami Onsen Station is just a small stop, it is rich with Edo-period charm. The station houses an irori hearth and sells local specialty products. The hearth burns year-round and, aside from providing warmth for visitors, also helps drive away insects that might nest in the thatched roof using smoke. Additionally, there is a spacious free foot bath nearby where travelers can soak their feet while leisurely watching trains come and go.
