Recently, "100-yuan prize-drawing machines" have become popular in Taiwan and can be seen near night markets or train stations. As the name suggests, these are vending machines that require a 100-yuan (approx. $3 USD) play each time, advertising the chance to win big prizes like a PS4. Now in Taipei’s Ximending district, you can also try your luck at one of these 100-yuan prize-drawing machines!

Since you don’t know what’s inside, many tourists rush to give it a try. It's promoted as having valuable gifts to win, though some people end up with items like notebooks or dice. But regardless, this gamified vending machine has been set up in many urban areas around Taiwan and has started a new trend.

Although every Hundred-Yuan Treasure Box is a surprise, if you want to exchange your prize after 10 p.m., you’ll need to reschedule due to the cut-off time for prize redemption. Some have complained that having to make a separate appointment is a bit inconvenient. However, staff are available from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and prizes can be delivered within 20 minutes. There’s also a QR code on the vending machine that connects you to online customer service.
