According to the UK's Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2017 Global Liveability Report released in August, Melbourne in the Southern Hemisphere has once again claimed the top spot. The Global Liveability Index evaluates 140 cities worldwide, using five key criteria: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure, to determine the most ideal cities for human habitation. Melbourne is a city rich in artistic and cultural atmosphere, with its unique laneways, numerous small bars, vibrant food culture, and lively nightlife — a perfect place to fully enjoy life.

Among Asian cities, the best performers were Tokyo and Osaka in Japan, ranking 13th and 14th globally respectively, followed by Singapore (global rank 35), Hong Kong (global rank 45), Seoul in South Korea (global rank 58), and Taipei in Taiwan (global rank 60).
