Fairy of Flowers Sky Corridor: Five Must-Visit Scenic Railway Spots in Zhushan

Chiayi boasts abundant natural landscapes, from the stunning 14-kilometer coastline in Dongshi Township to the world-renowned beauty of Alishan. Zhushan Township also offers astonishing cultural and natural wonders. It’s home to the famous Fenchihu lunchboxes, as well as the historic Alishan Forest Railway—two-thirds of which runs through the township—featuring lush and ever-changing forests along the route. Below are five recommended railway spots in western Zhushan, including verdant woodlands and historical-cultural attractions.

1. Zhushan Park – Fairy of Flowers Trail / Sky Corridor
The Fairy of Flowers Trail and Sky Corridor, located within Zhushan Park, are built among trees without cutting down any, fully embodying environmental protection and greening efforts. The trail and corridor are made of netting, allowing visitors to stand above and gaze at the vast beauty of the forest.

2. Zhushan Station
Zhushan Station marks the boundary between the flatland and mountain sections of the Alishan Forest Railway. The mountain section is serviced by 28-ton steam trains, while the flatland section uses 18-ton ones, offering a uniquely scenic journey.

Built around 1906, Zhushan Station still retains its Japanese colonial-era cypress wood architecture, exuding strong traditional Japanese design elements. It is the most well-preserved structure along the Alishan Forest Railway and a rare architectural gem.

3. Niuchoangxi Bridge
Niuchoangxi Bridge is a single-track railway steel truss bridge located between Zhushan Station and Zhangnaoliao Station. Constructed in 1907, due to its geographical location and other factors, it is a significant railway facility and a notable scenic spot on the railway.
