Relive the Glory Days: A Visit to Xinfangchunxing in Dadaocheng

As the economic structure changed, Taiwan’s tea exports gradually declined, leading to the closure of the over 200 teahouses that once flourished in Dadaocheng during its prime. Xinfangchunxing is the only one still standing—a century-old teahouse building on Minsheng West Road, designated as a municipal historic site in 2009. It perfectly embodies the blend of Eastern and Western influences that defined Dadaocheng at its height.

After nearly a century, this historic building has been restored and reopened to the public in 2016. Stepping into Xinfangchunxing is like traveling back in time to the old Dadaocheng, offering a glimpse into its former glory.

On the first floor of Xinfangchunxing, in addition to displays on the history and production of tea, you can also explore the stylish “Cat House Kiosk.” After exploring, enjoy a fragrant cup of tea paired with traditional pastries for a classic Taiwanese-style afternoon tea. The second floor recreates the set design from the Taiwanese drama “The Purple Dadaocheng.”

Additionally, there are many interactive installations incorporating modern technology, the most astonishing of which is the 360-degree VR experience of a panoramic view of old Dadaocheng, transporting you back in time to experience the district as it once was.
