Nantou offers more than just the Forest of Relief, the Ginkgo Forest Trail, and tea plantation scenery—it also boasts unique charm.

In summer, if you want to cool off without getting sunburned, head to the forest trails to breathe in the phytoncides. Nantou County is rich in natural landscapes, and its classic hiking trails are popular spots for watching sunrises and sea of clouds. The forests have now become hot travel destinations. Whether it’s the previously famous Forest of Relief or the refreshing and tranquil Lulin Mountain Trail, both are beloved. Now, the Ginkgo Trail in Nantou is also nearing completion.

Located in Dashan, Lugu Township, at the border of Lugu Township and Zhushan Township, the Dashan Ginkgo Forest is close to Shanlinxi and Xitou Forest Recreation Area. Situated at an altitude of 1,300–1,600 meters, the area enjoys a cool climate and is perpetually shrouded in mist. The surrounding region is known as a specialized area for high-mountain Shanlinxi tea. If you wish to admire the mountain mists, experience walking among the clouds, or stand atop the high mountains, this is the perfect destination. The upcoming completion of the Ginkgo Trail has generated much anticipation.

Dashan features over 80 hectares of ginkgo forest. As a living fossil, ginkgo trees grow slowly and are nicknamed “grandpa-grandson trees,” meaning that the grandfather plants them, and the grandson gets to see the fruits. Ginkgo forests sprout fresh green in spring, turn lush green in summer, golden yellow in autumn, and silver-white in winter—their foliage shifts colors with the seasons, creating a stunning scenic beauty that has become one of the area’s main attractions.

The upcoming Ginkgo Trail will include facilities such as a 325-meter ginkgo-themed trail, two rest platforms, and a 92-meter connecting trail. In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery, visitors can also explore nearby tea plantations for tea tasting while taking in the expansive mountain views—a feature that has drawn considerable attention.
