Top 10 Must-Visit Light Travel Attractions in Tainan: The Ultimate List of Highway Road Trip Routes Released

Tainan’s highway network is well-developed, yet there are still many emerging or local hidden gems that few people know about. With the rise of independent travel in recent years, to offer travelers who love Tainan more new options, the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau has centered its efforts on “highways” and held the "2017 Tainan Light Travel 'Free & Easy' Travel Itinerary Submission Competition," inviting travelers to share self-guided tours that connect various highway routes across Tainan.

Independent travel is the hottest way to deeply experience local life in Tainan. Whether it's a family gathering, a trip with like-minded friends, a sweet date with a partner, or even a personal journey of reflection, all can unfold along the axis of a highway.

Tainan’s highway network is comprehensive, and whether you’re driving, cycling, riding a scooter, taking a bus, using a sightseeing taxi, or even walking, highway travel can offer unique experiences unlike any other. The bureau hopes to share these with travelers from all over through this itinerary submission competition.

The competition ran for one month and received a total of 66 itinerary submissions. These included routes on national highways, provincial highways, expressways, city (county) roads, famous old streets and alleys of the Ancient City of Tainan, Taiwan Good Bus routes, as well as several lesser-known private travel routes.

Mr. Du, whose itinerary “A Nostalgic Feast of Depth” won first place in the online public vote with 2,017 votes, said, “This time, I designed a 2-day-1-night itinerary around the Baihe and Houpi areas. Aside from the stunning local scenery—such as the Houpi sea of rice fields, Guanziling Mud Hot Springs, and the Fire and Water Spring—the strong sense of local hospitality is the most precious memory a traveler can have.”
