A stunning hidden gem: the Dutch Fort in Keelung with dramatic sea views and towering chimneys

Keelung’s coastline offers many spots to enjoy ocean views, from popular attractions like Badouzi and Chaoying to the newly viral photography spot “Baimi Wan Battery.” In addition to its cliffside panoramic vistas, it also features three large chimneys of the Hsieh-ho Power Plant as a backdrop, along with the historic Baimi Wan Battery fortress, creating a majestic and magnificent scene.

Also known as the Dutch Fort, Baimi Wan Battery is located on the west bank of Keelung Harbor and is a municipal historic site. Together with the fort on the east bank, it was built to defend the harbor. It is said that both the Spanish and the Dutch once constructed castles here. Its establishment dates back to the Sino-French War period, hence the name Dutch Fort Battery. The current structure was reconstructed by the Japanese military during the Russo-Japanese War and holds significant historical importance.
