As autumn arrives and the weather turns crisp, during the late fall season, miscanthus flowers begin to bloom, turning mountain ridges white and swaying silver waves along trails, with dancing fluff in the wind creating breathtaking views. Below is a list of miscanthus flower spots across Taiwan. In addition to the well-known Grass Mountain Ancient Trail, silver-white flower waves can be found across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Travelers might want to add these to their list and plan an autumn flower-viewing trip.

Taipei – Yangmingshan
The miscanthus flowers at Yangmingshan are a popular flower-viewing spot for Taipei residents. The entire mountainside is dyed in vast swathes of silver-white, offering picturesque scenery that is truly a feast for the eyes.

New Taipei City – Ruifang
The northeast corner of Ruifang has many trails for viewing miscanthus flowers. Along the way, you’ll be accompanied by cool and pleasant streams, with expansive views that offer unobstructed sights of the mountains and sea scenery of Ruifang and Keelung Harbor.

Keelung
Keelung Mountain, besides being called Chicken Cage Mountain due to its resemblance to a cage, is also known as “Big Belly Beauty Mountain” because, when viewed from Jinfushan Temple in Jiufen, it looks like a reclining, full-figured beauty. Keelung Mountain is a conical dormant volcano with hard rock layers. Coupled with year-round sea breezes and northeastern monsoons bringing salty rains, the mountain has sparse tree growth and is covered with miscanthus grass. Facing the coast, it offers wide, open views with a complete 360-degree panorama.

New Taipei City Gongliao / Yilan
Yilan’s Grass Mountain Ancient Trail is one of the most representative ancient trails in the northeast corner. When autumn arrives, the mountain ridges present a scene of undulating white waves, refreshing the mind and spirit. The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area also holds the “Grass Mountain Ancient Trail Miscanthus Flower Festival” in November, inviting everyone to hike up high and enjoy the autumn miscanthus blossoms.
