The tropical depression, with a pressure of 1000 hPa, is located at 16.5°N, 130°E, on the eastern sea surface of the Philippines, moving northwestward at a speed of 15 km/h. It has the potential to develop into a mild typhoon by the 12th at the earliest. If it forms, it will become the 20th typhoon of 2017 (to be named Khanun), coming closest to Taiwan on Friday and Saturday.

This weekend, northern, northeastern, Yilan, Hualien, and eastern Taiwan will mostly see cloudy and rainy weather. Travelers should take note. The southern region will experience afternoon showers over the weekend, so it’s advisable to carry rain gear when going out.
