The “world’s shortest flight” from Switzerland to Germany will operate for the last day on April 14!

Is the world’s shortest flight disappearing? The Austrian People's Air Group, which operates this route, has stated that due to excessively high operational costs and lower-than-expected passenger numbers, the world’s shortest flight — from St. Gallen in Switzerland to Friedrichshafen in Germany, which takes just 8 minutes and covers a distance of 20 kilometers — will come to an end.

According toTravelandleisurereports, Austrian airline People's Viennaline has been operating this route since November 2, 2016, but after only five months, it recently announced that the final flight will take off on April 14, 2017.

This route uses a small Embraer 170 aircraft with 76 seats, offering two daily flights, with ticket prices around NT$1,200.

The creation of this route was mainly due to Lake Constance located between the two cities. Driving takes about one hour, while taking a ferry takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes, thus giving rise to the world’s shortest flight.
