A new scenic spot with breathtaking sea views — Taiwan’s most beautiful elevated bridge opens to traffic

Taiwan’s East Coast is long and narrow, bordering the magnificent Pacific Ocean, making Southlink Highway a popular route for many travelers. Located between Jinfeng and Duoliang in Taitung County, the “Jinfeng Bridge,” which adopts a 4-lane outer ring road design on the Jinfeng section, is a newly opened elevated bridge that has recently been put into service. Built along the stunning Pacific coastline, it has been dubbed Taiwan’s most beautiful elevated bridge, sparking considerable online discussion and becoming a new landmark for Taitung.

The “Section 412K+350–415K+500 Widening and Improvement Project of Provincial Highway 9” includes the 1,315-meter-long Jinfeng Bridge, as well as the addition of two northbound lanes along the seaward side of the existing Provincial Highway 9 in the Duoliang section. These lanes, also constructed as an elevated bridge spanning 1,361 meters, along with related works such as retaining walls, have now been completed. Together with the already operational Duoliang Bridge to the south, the entire project is now fully open to traffic.

The newly opened Jinfeng Bridge features a long-span design to avoid obstructing the natural landscape and ecology, reducing the structure’s volume and optimizing its dimensions. This makes the Jinfeng Bridge a distinctive landmark for Jinfeng Village. Once operational, it will increase road capacity and service levels by adding two lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions. It will help alleviate traffic congestion on Jinfeng Street during holiday periods, improve the quality of life for local residents and the comfort of road users, boost tourism development in the region, invigorate the local hot spring industry, and highlight local cultural characteristics.
