Typhoon Saola, the 22nd typhoon of the season, forms and approaches Taiwan; proximity will be key to its impact

Typhoon Saola (international name: SAOLA), the 22nd typhoon, formed on the 24th, with its center located at 14.0 degrees north latitude and 135.5 degrees east longitude, moving northwestward at a speed of 28 to 23 kilometers per hour. The expected path is to turn north over the eastern waters of Taiwan, but some forecasts suggest it may come closer to Taiwan, so the extent of its impact on the island remains to be observed. From the 27th to the 28th, the eastern half of Taiwan will experience a certain degree of impact and needs special attention.
 

Typhoon Saola has a well-defined structure and is still evolving with moisture from the sea. Its central pressure is 995 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 20 meters per second, and maximum gusts reaching 28 meters per second. The radius of the area experiencing typhoon-force winds (Beaufort Scale 7) is 100 kilometers.

As Typhoon Saola moves northward, it is still expected to affect Japan. Travelers planning to visit Japan at the end of the month should pay special attention to weather conditions and flight status. From October 29 to 31, another cold front will move south, causing temperatures to drop further to around 15°C, so warm clothing and blankets should be prepared in advance.
