Good news for fans of Hong Kong-style desserts: following the arrival of dessert king Hui Lau Shan, the renowned Hong Kong dessert institution "Jiājiā Dessert," which has received Michelin recommendations for three consecutive years, will also open its doors in Taiwan at the end of January. It will become the brand’s first overseas branch globally.

With a 40-year history in Hong Kong, Jiājiā Dessert is a well-known local institution that boasts a large base of loyal customers — even movie star Chow Yun-fat has been a patron for over a decade. The shop emphasizes handmade freshness and a commitment to traditional flavors, earning recommendations not only from locals but also from Taiwanese tourists who consider it a must-try when visiting Hong Kong. The founders and the second-generation management’s strict standards for ingredients and quality led to its recognition by the Michelin Guide in 2016 when it introduced its street food evaluations, and it has been selected repeatedly ever since.

The menu at the first Taiwan branch will be identical to that of the flagship store in Hong Kong. Items such as "Sesame Paste," "Walnut Soup," "Almond Soup," "Sweet Ginger Sweet Potato Tonic," and "Ginkgo Barley and Yuba" will all be presented authentically in Taiwan. Even the highly popular sweet dumplings will be air-freighted frozen directly from Hong Kong.

One of the signature items, "Sesame Paste," is made with specially selected black sesame seeds that are slowly roasted, stone-ground, and carefully simmered. The result is an exceptionally smooth texture and a rich aroma that hits you instantly. This dedication to high quality and the goal of perfectly replicating the authentic taste that has lasted 40 years is why the paste will be imported directly from Hong Kong.

The first Taiwan branch will be located near Taipei City Hall MRT Station. In addition to maintaining the neighborhood warmth of the Hong Kong original, the shop will also feature a new, clean design — symbolizing Jiājiā Dessert’s 40-year commitment to providing simple, rustic, and delicious desserts.
