Taipei City initiated an old-store revitalization plan in 2015, and more than 30 traditional shops have since participated in the transformation. The historically rich Monga district was generally seen as a nostalgic retro spot, not on par with the lively East or Xinyi districts. However, since the openings of the Starbucks at Lin’s Residence and the Wanhua Twin Stars, coupled with the success of the Taipei City Government’s recent “Revitalize West District” initiative, Monga has become a must-visit new hotspot for domestic and international tourists.

Long-established local businesses, in collaboration with nearly a year of preparation by the Taipei City Government, have shown strong willingness to participate in the revitalization and transformation. These traditional industries, deeply rooted in the area, are using this opportunity to reach consumer groups beyond their usual clientele.
