Baldness is a headache for many, but one Japanese hotel chain, "Hotel Tetora," offers exclusive discounts for bald guests—and the more bald you are, the bigger the discount. With 20 branches across Japan, Hotel Tetora has been offering its "Bald Discount" since August 2014, promoting the idea that "the more you're bald, the more you save."

The bald discount originated from a complaint by a former employee who said it took a long time to clean hair out of drains while servicing rooms. After hearing this, the hotel’s president decided to offer discounts to bald guests. The amount of the discount varies by branch, typically ranging from 300 to 500 yen per night (about NT$75 to NT$130).

Guests wishing to avail of the bald discount must apply in advance. Upon check-in, hotel staff will assess the degree of baldness to determine eligibility. In fact, the president of Hotel Tetora is himself bald, and each branch displays Q-version dolls modeled after him—guests who resemble the president more closely are more likely to receive the discount, sparking lively discussion and attention.
