Hong Kong Harbour City’s annual Christmas light display is a festive highlight, and this year brings an out-of-this-world surprise. From November 21, 2017, to January 1, 2018, the Ocean Terminal open plaza turns into an “Air City,” where three giant Christmas spaceships soar through the starry sky. Visitors can even board the largest spaceship on the plaza and take off into the clouds to find joyful Christmas magic. During weekends, Harbour City will also debut Hong Kong’s first-ever drone light show. Paired with synchronized lighting effects, LED violin performances, and hoop dancing, the festivities promise extra holiday cheer.

This year, Harbour City invites everyone to “fly” into a dreamy starry sky and experience a magical Christmas. The centerpiece is a massive Christmas spaceship docked in the center of the plaza. Measuring 20 meters in length and over 7 meters in height, it features propeller-shaped marquee lights spinning at the front and back, along with more than 2,000 twinkling LED lights. Visitors are welcome to board the ship for photo ops. The entire Ocean Terminal open plaza transforms into a surreal romantic scene, like stepping into an “Air City.” Two spaceships loaded with Christmas gifts and dazzling colorful hot air balloons float above, while Santa himself is “inflated” to join in the festive fun. Kids can sit on the “roof” of a Christmas cabin and enjoy the dreamy spinning sky. The joyful Christmas atmosphere extends from the plaza up the grand staircase of Ocean Terminal, where oversized decorations like candy canes, wreaths, wooden horses, and gift boxes hang in mid-air, complemented by giant snowflake gears on both sides that spread happiness.

In line with this year’s Christmas theme, Harbour City has specially invited Hong Kong UAV expert Mr. Chan Chun-wai to design Hong Kong’s first drone light performance, combined with an LED violin ensemble and unique hoop dance routines. This spectacular sea, land, and air Christmas show will dazzle audiences both above and below. Mr. Chan, an expert in UAV systems, has performed in Macau and mainland China but is making his Hong Kong debut. Leveraging Harbour City’s unique location, multiple glowing drones will fly in formation, creating dynamic patterns over Victoria Harbour and along the waterfront, synced with live lighting and music for an unprecedented visual spectacle. To enhance the dreamy “Christmas in the air” vibe, the plaza will also feature fog effects during the show, offering an immersive flying experience.
Additionally, the Ocean Terminal open plaza will feature a Christmas log cabin surrounded by over 100 helium balloons. For a HK$60 donation to the Hong Kong Leukemia Foundation, visitors can snap photos in the cabin and take home a festive balloon to spread joy.
