See Taiwan’s First Underwater Christmas Tree: Top 5 Photo Spots at Liuchuan Light Festival

The Taichung City Government has come up with a creative idea this year by building Taiwan’s first 9-meter-tall underwater Christmas tree in the Liuchuan River. Combined with nearby LED art installations such as wandering swans, a giant gift box, tulip and rose flower seas, a colorful heart-shaped tree, and a wishing pool, the display adds a strong romantic atmosphere to the riverside at night. The lighting ceremony officially takes place on December 9th, and related activities will continue until December 25th. The creative art light displays will remain on view until March 4th, 2018.

1. Underwater Christmas Tree
This year, the Taichung City Government moved the event to the Liuchuan area and the Yangming Building to host the Taichung Christmas Carnival. It features Taiwan’s first underwater Christmas tree and a creative art light exhibition in Liuchuan. The 9-meter-tall underwater Christmas tree is ingeniously designed, inspired by the Liuchuan River and incorporating elements of the Taipei Flower Expo. It is adorned with multi-layered white LED lights, and its surface is complemented with laser-engraved floral patterns.

2. Liuchuan Gift Box
The Liuchuan machinery room has been transformed into a happy gift box made of LED lights—perfect for couples to take photos or even propose.

3. Archway Light Corridor
In addition to the underwater Christmas tree, there is also a light corridor under the bridge. Strolling through it feels like traveling through a time tunnel. Since its opening on December 9th, it will continue until March 4th of next year, providing visitors with a great waterside walking space and also helping to boost development in the central district.
