In 1983, "The Smurfs" aired on NBC in the United States, achieving a viewership rating of 42%, breaking records at the time, and winning multiple Emmy Awards. It first aired on CTS in Taiwan in August 1984. The franchise originated from Belgium, the sacred land of European comics. Its creator was the late Belgian cartoonist Peyo. Together with his wife, he conceived and created these world-famous little blue characters. They made their first comic book appearance on October 23, 1958, and the animated version began airing on Belgian TV in 1959. Standing three apples tall with blue skin and white pants, it’s said all the Smurfs are over a hundred years old. You can’t see them unless they invite you into their world. In 2018, The Smurfs invite you to enter their blue world at age 17!

In the Smurfs Story House, you’ll learn about Peyo, the father of The Smurfs and hailed as a genius storyteller, along with an introduction to his life. The birthplace of The Smurfs — Peyo’s studio — is recreated. Since their debut in 1958, the timeline wall recounts nearly 60 years of Smurf history, displaying replicas of Peyo’s original manuscripts and taking you into the author’s ideal blue world.
