Muji has expanded into various fields in recent years and in 2017 decided to build the world’s first Muji Hotel. Surprisingly, the location chosen was not Japan, but Shenzhen, marking the brand's first step in expanding the MUJI Hotel presence. It was also announced that MUJI HOTEL would officially open on January 18, 2018. Recently, interior photos of the hotel have been released ahead of time, showcasing the familiar minimalist style and warm wooden tones.

The Shenzhen MUJI HOTEL features a total of 79 guest rooms, as well as a Muji Restaurant and a two-floor Muji flagship store. The hotel offers five room types, where everything from furniture and daily necessities to small spatial details is exclusively furnished with Muji products. The materials used include a large amount of recycled wood, eco-friendly materials, and sustainable construction methods. Staying true to Muji’s minimalist and functional design philosophy, the hotel provides guests with a stress-free and comfortable stay, all at a mid-range price point.

Currently, three Muji Hotels are planned: MUJI HOTEL Shenzhen (opened January 18, 2018), MUJI HOTEL Beijing (opened March 20, 2018), and MUJI HOTEL Ginza, set to open in 2019.
