Taking photos has become one of the must-do activities for many travelers when exploring new destinations. But how can you capture elegant and stunning shots against beautiful backdrops? You might want to take a page from Britain’s Princess Kate. Every time she appears in front of the camera, she manages to produce photos full of grace and charm, with every movement radiating elegance — all thanks to a posing technique known as the Duchess Slant.

The Duchess Slant is the most flattering seated pose for facing the camera. It can be spotted in various settings: whenever Princess Kate sits for a photo, she slightly bends and angles her knees, creating the illusion of long, slender legs. When wearing a skirt or dress, this posture shows only the side profile of the legs, thus also avoiding any wardrobe malfunctions.

The Duchess Slant was actually used even earlier by Princess Diana. Photos from the 1990s, including her visit to the Taj Mahal in 1992, reveal its use.

To take beautiful photos, in addition to makeup and lighting, finding the right angle and pose that suits you is also a key factor in capturing a great shot. It’s recommended that you practice in front of a mirror to find your most flattering angles and movements.
