When traveling abroad by plane, many passengers hope to get some rest during the flight. This is especially important for those on long-haul, overnight flights or in economy class. Knowing how to sleep well in the cabin is crucial. Below are four tips shared by aircraft designers that passengers may want to note for future international flights.

1. Pre-select Your Seat
To sleep comfortably in economy class, pre-selecting your seat is a crucial factor. If you’re assigned a seat randomly, you might end up in a noisy or bumpy area. By choosing your seat in advance, you can opt for a seat in the front row, which not only experiences less turbulence but is also farther from the engines, resulting in minimal disturbance.

2. Maximize Legroom
The typical legroom in economy class is about 80 centimeters, providing ample space for leg extension, which aids in rest and sleep. Choosing an aisle seat next to a bulkhead or partition wall offers more legroom. Aisle seats are also convenient for getting up, though you may need to move for window seat passengers.

3. Control the Temperature
The temperature on airplanes is generally maintained between 20 to 22 degrees Celsius, similar to the most comfortable temperature at home. If you feel too cold, you can ask the flight attendant for a blanket and pillow to ensure you're as comfortable as possible.

4. Prepare Personal Sleep Aids

To sleep well in unfamiliar surroundings, consider bringing your own sleep aids such as an eye mask, earplugs, pillow, familiar scent, or personal travel pillow. Anything that helps create a cozy, familiar atmosphere is worth trying.
