Instagram’s Secret Dessert Shop: The Ultra-Dreamy Moonlight Cake — Limited to 200 per Month

Turn off the lights, bring out the cake for the birthday celebrant, and this cake actually glows in the dark. This idea was inspired by the 25-year-old owner of Oh Cake when she celebrated her boyfriend’s birthday. She dreamed up a magical fusion of a birthday essential — the cake — and a gift, creating a handcrafted moonlight lamp cake. Within just three months of going on sale, it became a trend on Instagram and is now one of the hottest cakes around.

What should you give as a birthday or holiday gift? Have you ever struggled with this question? The 25-year-old owner, who already loves baking desserts, decided to create a cake that is both useful and meaningful for her boyfriend’s birthday last year. She combined a handmade moonlight lamp with a handmade cake. The lamp can even be engraved with custom words or phrases, so after the cake is eaten, there’s still a cute little night light left behind.

There are three cake flavors to choose from: honey, banana, and cocoa. The color of the cake body and frosting can be matched as desired. Popular choices include pink and powder blue, gradient tones, and rainbow hues — all styles currently favored by customers.

Handmade cakes aren’t rare, but at Oh Cake, even the moonlight lamps are handmade. The text on the lamp can be customized (limited to uppercase letters and numbers), allowing you to inscribe your names in English or other meaningful messages. The lamp includes a switch button, and bulb colors currently include white and blue, with yellow, red, and green to be added later.

The owner explained that crafting a single moonlight lamp cake takes about two to three hours. Since everything is handmade, production is limited, with only 200 cakes available per month. Orders for the next month open on the first day of each month. Currently, during the trial run, the price is NT$690 for a 4-inch cake and NT$990 for a 6-inch cake. Starting in May, the prices will be NT$900 for a 4-inch cake and NT$1200 for a 6-inch cake.
