The touching original illustrations from "My Neighbor Totoro" are exhibited overseas for the first time ever! Created by Toshiyuki Ishii, a master of Japanese illustration, the works focus on the theme of “children,” expressing the wish that children all over the world can live happy and peaceful lives. She blends Western watercolor techniques with traditional Eastern painting styles to create delicate and gentle expressions that have been loved by generations in Japan and international illustration fans.

In 2018, the centennial of Ishii's passing, 100 classic illustrations were specially selected, including illustrations from the globally best-selling book "My Neighbor Totoro" (over 10 million copies sold) and classic fairy tale picture books. Through her portrayals of children’s innocent expressions, she awakens the hope within people’s hearts and joins hands in creating a loving and caring world for children.

She embarked on her professional artistic journey through the paper puppet play “Mother’s Story” (1949). By blending Western watercolor techniques with traditional Eastern painting methods, she developed her own unique style that captures delicate emotions, which continues to be widely loved by generations in Japan and celebrated internationally.
