The most beautiful plum blossom season in a decade has arrived – get the scoop on the sea of snow-white blooms first

The 2018 Nantou “Chasing Plums in the Snow” series of events kicked off on December 23 at the Xinyi Plum Dream Factory. This year, the low winter temperatures in Xinyi Township combined with moisture levels created ideal conditions unlike the warmer winters of previous years that affected blooming. The plum blossoms are set to be at their best in nearly 10 years, with January being the prime time for plum blossom viewing.

Low temperatures paired with moisture provide the perfect environment for plum blossoms to thrive. The peak blooming period is in the first half of January, and the floral display will continue through the end of the month. Visitors can head to locations such as Fengguidou, Wusong], Niuchongkeng, Waipingding, and Tuchang to admire the blossoms. In addition to the snow-white plum blossoms, visitors can also enjoy seas of white michelia flowers and poinsettias. After the Lunar New Year, cherry blossoms will take over at Caopingtou.
